Patrol Squadron 24 commenced operations on April 10, 1943. Its job was to fly the Consolidated B-24 Liberator, policing the Pacific Ocean on reconnaissance missions, air-to-sea rescue operations, and runs on enemy ground targets. During more modern times, the squadron's service history included surveillance missions during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
The patch of the 24th Patrol Squadron shows a sultry woman casting a look over her right shoulder. She's dressed in a skimpy black bodysuit and has large, batlike wings. She rests upon a coat-of-arms that shows a parachuted anti-submarine sonar buoy.
