Nicknamed the Iron Angels, the U.S. Navy Fighter Squadron 53 established air superiority throughout the Korean War and Vietnamese Conflict. They fought their battles while strapped into F-9F-2 Panthers, F2H-3 Banshees, F4D-1 Skyrays, F3H Demons, and F-8 Crusaders. The government dissolved the squadron in 1971.
