Nicknamed the Roadrunners, the U.S. Navy Fighter Squadron 144 served during peak Cold War years, established in 1955 and ending in 1971. Aboard Navy carriers, these pilots saw plenty of action in Vietnam and also helped keep communist China in check throughout the Pacific. They flew the FJ-4 Fury and later upgraded to the A-4 Skyhawk.
The Squadron's insignia shows an angry roadrunner brandishing a big bat with a railroad spike piercing through it. Sure, he's got the speed and the cunning to outrun or outwit his enemy, but this bitter bird just wants to fight.
