Talk about history. The 96th was our country's very first bombardment squadron, activated in World War I. While operating from Bréguet 14 biplanes—handcrafted by our French allies—the entire unit once mistakenly touched down behind enemy lines, near Koblenz, Germany. Thus, they regretfully but provided a whole slew of perfect aircraft to our surprised enemies. But, despite this early blunder, the 96th flew on to be the most successful, most active aerial fighter squadrons.
The emblem of the 96th Bombardment Squadron showcases Satan grasping a white bomb. This artful assemblage is placed atop a black background with a white border in the shape of a triangle.
