The 789th Tactical Fighter Squadron didn't last long, but it did leave behind a pretty cool insignia. The group activated on February 9, 1965, with plans to fly the McDonnell F-4 Phantom II but it was deactivated three months later.
The combat insignia shows a whimsical, winged railroad boxcar in full flight, like some twisted Thomas the Train creation. No longer bound by rails, this car with his button nose and crooked smile is happy to reign death from above all day long.
