The famous Flying Tigers, officially known as the 74th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, were an American Volunteer Group that became one of the most successful groups of pilots during the war. They dominated the air wherever they went, first in the P-40 Warhawk, and later in the P-51 Mustang. They hunted and attacked Japanese bombers and executed strafing fire on Japanese targets.
The squadron patch depicts a winged tiger diving from the sky in full attack mode, its claws and fangs bared. A bold bolt of lightning divides the shield-shaped patch with its blue backdrop.
