Not every aerial hero flew an airplane equipped with guns. Some of the bravest pilots flew into harms way to equip the fighting men on the ground, drop paratroopers, or evacuate the desperate wounded to safety. Some of those heroes in WWII served with the 6th Combat Cargo Squadron (CCS). Flying the famous Douglas C-47 Skytrain and the Curtiss C-46 Commando, the crews of the 6th CCS formed part of the backbone of the 2nd Combat Cargo Group. Their missions took them all over the Pacific theater of operations, including over the Philippines and New Guinea. The 6th CCS was especially instrumental during the battles for Leyte and Luzon, where they earned a Presidential Unit Citation.
The Aeroplane Apparel Company is proud to offer this t-shirt that features the logo of the 6th CCS. A winged elephant, emblazoned with stars, carries a cannon on his back and a stretcher roll in his trunk, symbolizing the squadrons loyalty, strength, and durability. The elephant displays a determined scowl as he drops much-needed men and supplies into the combat zone. The bravery of the men like those found among the 6th CCS preserved the logistical chain that led the forces of freedom to victory.
