World War II in Europe was won because of the sacrifices of the bomber crews of the U.S Army Air Corps Eighth Air Force, and one of the squadrons assigned to that legendary band of airmen was the 612th Bombardment Squadron. Flying from bases in the English countryside, the men of the 612th flew in some of the most dangerous and consequential missions of the war. In B-17s with names like "Fools Luck," "Fancy Nancy," and "Channel Express," the 612th became the squadron with the second highest bombing accuracy rating of the air war over Europe. They flew missions over infamous targets like Frankfurt, Bremen, Berlin, and Leipzig, where they earned two Distinguished Unit Citations.
The emblem of the 612th Bombardment Squadron on this AAC t-shirt pays homage to the extraordinary courage of those young airmen. Their logo features a squadron of bombers in formation, heading for home and glory after another successful mission. Within the pale yellow disc, a bomb falls through the clouds on a set of ivory wings, symbolizing the accuracy with which the 612th performed their hazardous duty.
