One of the most heroic medium bomber units of the Second World War was the 585th Bombardment Squadron of the U.S. Army Air Corps. Flying their Martin B-26 Marauder bombers over the European theater of operations from bases in England and France, the 585th was responsible for taking out railroad bridges, ammo depots, and German V-1 launch sites. Even though they dropped their weapons loads from medium altitudes, the speed and resilience of the B-26 was an asset; the Marauder experienced the lowest loss rate of any bomber of the war. The men of the 585th Bombardment Squadron were all heroes; one of them, Captain Darrell Lindsey, even won the Congressional Medal of Honor.
This t-shirt bearing the emblem of the 585th Bombardment Squadron is the excellent way to honor the courage of those intrepid airmen. On a light yellow disk, a winged and ruddy-faced wolf stands atop the clouds in his flight suit, obviously on the prowl. Under his arm, he carries a massive bomb painted in a red, white, and blue motif. The emblem of the 585th signified their readiness to find the enemy and deliver a little old-fashioned American freedom.
